Diss-Located Bones: An Introduction
By Andy Gray

Situated midway between Norwich, Ipswich and Cambridge the market town of Diss is now providing a focus for trombonists throughout East Anglia.
The aptly named Diss-Located Bones was started in 2004 by ex-Black Dyke Mills trombonist Andy Gray and the former Principal Trombonist of the BBC Symphony Orchestra - and editor of The Trombonist magazine, Tony Parsons.
With over twenty trombonists from Military Bands, Orchestras, Brass Bands and Jazz ensembles, Diss-Located Bones provides a meeting of disparate styles in a rare chance for trombonists from different genres to play together.
As well as the traditional fare of classically based trombone ensembles, the presence of some of East Anglia’s best jazz players presents an opportunity for wider musical programming.
Diss-Located Bones rehearse once a month on Wednesday evenings (with the occasional Sunday morning), at one of a number of halls in and around Diss. Details are posted on the website as soon as the date and venue are fixed.
With so many trombonists involved it is normal for at least ten to be at each rehearsal – the more the merrier.
If you would like to hear Diss-Located Bones, they are playing at The Cut, Halesworth, Suffolk on the afternoon of 28th August 2005. They are also playing at the BTS day at Oundle on the 2nd of October when a television crew from BBC East will be filming Diss-Located Bones for a feature about the Trombone, the BTS and the Endangered Species Project for the magazine programme “Inside Out”.
If you are interested in playing with Diss-Located Bones please contact Andy Gray or Tony Parsons through the contact page on the website at http://www.Diss-LocatedBones.co.uk. All trombonists regardless of ability, genre or age are welcome to come along.
Andy Gray started playing the trombone in 1975.
A former member of both the Black Dyke Mills and Brighouse and Rastrick Bands, Andy started playing again in 2004 after a complete layoff of five years.
